Enjoy Summer Celebrations and Help Spare The Air

Throughout the Sacramento region, summer means neighborhood barbecues, pool parties, community festivals, concerts, farmers’ markets, and picnics at the park.

As we enjoy these seasonal traditions, it’s also a great opportunity to help Spare The Air. May through October is peak smog season in the Sacramento region. The good news is that small actions can make a big difference and help us all Breathe Better Together.

Plan Ahead
Before you head out, think about ways to reduce the number of car trips you take. Combining errands and planning routes in advance can help lower emissions by reducing your time on the road.

Carpool
Heading to an event with friends or family? Sharing rides helps reduce emissions and can save money on fuel and parking. If everyone is coming from different directions, consider meeting at a central location and continuing the trip together.

Choose Public Transit
Public transit is a convenient and reliable way to get to summer destinations while reducing the number of cars on the road. Whether you’re attending a concert, festival, or gathering with family and friends, riding transit helps reduce emissions and traffic congestion.

Walk, Bike, or Roll for Short Trips
For nearby activities, consider walking, biking, or rolling instead of driving. These options can be a great way to stay active while helping improve local air quality.

Help Spread the Word
Campaign partners play an important role in helping communities understand the effects of air pollution and the actions that can reduce it. Share our free Spare The Air resources with your coworkers, neighbors, friends, family, and community networks to encourage others to take action.

Every action adds up. Whether you combine errands, carpool to an event, ride public transit, or choose active transportation, such as biking or walking, your efforts help improve air quality across the Sacramento region.

In addition to reducing air pollution, you’ll want to be sure to protect your health on days when the pollution forecast is high.

Check the daily AQI forecast before making plans. Forecasts are shared daily on Facebook and X, and current conditions are available on SpareTheAir.com. You can also sign up for Air Alert to receive daily AQI forecasts by email and optional text notifications on Spare The Air days at SpareTheAir.com/signup/.

Thank you for helping our communities Breathe Better Together this summer.
